Real soap is hard to come by these days
Our local shopping markets are inundated with loads of ‘soap-like’ products, but most cannot claim to be real soap. The astute shopper can immediately spot an imposter: the label is marked as a ‘bathing,’ ‘beauty,’ ‘body,’ or ‘moisturizing bar’ - nowhere does it mention soap. These items cannot be legally labeled as soap because they, in fact, have little to do with soap.
Unfortunately for the unsuspecting consumer, these ubiquitous ‘soap-like’ products are actually harsh cleaning agents packed with loads of harmful chemicals and toxic ingredients. Rather than soap, what you are getting is a detergent with an added synthetic moisturizing agent.
Our delicate skin is highly porous and absorbent. Our epidermis (skin) is the largest organ we have and it literally absorbs anything we put on it. This is the primary reason why the nicotine and birth control patches that can be applied on the skin actually work. The chemicals in these ‘soap-like’ products penetrate our skin and we take in the toxins.
Fortunately, we have you covered. Our Blue Moon Farm soap for bathing and shaving is made with simple and natural ingredients: olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and lye. During saponification (the soap-making process) the lye interacts with the fats/oils to create the soap that rids our skin of dirt and oil. Lye is a necessary ingredient in creating real soap and, although it might sound a bit intimidating, it is no longer caustic after the soap-making process has taken place.
Pure natural shea butter is the heart and soul of our soap. It creates a luxurious, soft, and delicate soap that lathers very well. Blue Moon Farm Soap for Shaving and Bathing is a superior choice for natural cleansing that will leave your skin feeling smooth, clean, and moisturized. Your skin will thank you.

Today, one would describe our farm as a small family farm, situated on 17 acres providing just about everything a farm family could want: pastures, orchard, hay fields, woodlands, fresh water springs and outbuildings. We have worked hard since 2004 to restore the farm to its natural beauty and capability. It is a labor of love that we wish to share.
This farm was originally part of the “Hawk Farm” purchased by Joseph Hawk in 1819 for $3,420, a tidy sum in those days. We acquired the property in 2004 and meticulously restored and renovated the two stone buildings in 2005-2006. The month of acquisition housed a blue moon, hence the farm’s name.
You will find us in the summer at the Holland Township Farmers Market. This quaint market, located at the Holland Township Fire House on Rt. 519 (at Andersen Rd), is small and the vendors are REALLY local.
The market is open from June through mid-September on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. All of our products will be on sale as seasonally available.
